It’s Lit! Well the candles and diyas are 🙂
Sunday October 27th is Diwali.
Diwali, or Deepavali, a Sanskrit word meaning “rows of lighted lamps,” is a Hindu-originated festival celebrated in India and around the world. During the five-day celebration — also known as the “festival of lights” — clay lamps known as diyas are lit to signify the victory of good over evil.
You may notice some people in your neighbourhood with their Christmas lights on, or lighting fireworks tonight. Diwali is like Halloween and Christmas for us. Treats will be consumed and presents may be exchanged!
If you want to celebrate turn up the lights in your home and light candles! It’s all about the lighting – maybe sneak in a good lit selfie too 🙂
Here are some fun events happening this weekend to celebrate Diwali.
